Micro-blogging
Micro-blogging has become part of social life in recent years. Younger learners, using Social Networking tools often use micro-blogging techniques without realising. Increasingly, specialised micro-blogging tools are becoming educational tools for reflection and the creation of communities of practice.
Internet access
Social networking has become a real phenomena over recent years.
Millions of people across the world have begun to use social networking sites to communicate with friends and colleagues. The sites allow users to embed video and audio files; to send short twitter-like messages and to add attachments of all kinds.
Internet access
Interactive Whiteboard (IWB) emulators allow interactive learning to become more mobile.
These are small devices (different types are different shapes) which stick to a smooth surface (usually a non-electronic whiteboard). They are connected to a laptop by wire (or in some cases, wirelessly). They work by having software installed on the laptop. The device records all the board activites by means of special pens. This action 'emulates' the actions of a normal IWB.
Laptop and licence to use
Windows Movie Maker (WMM) is part of the Microsoft Operating System. It has been there since MS XP and was much improved after service pack 2. So, since XPSP2 WMM has been available for teachers and learners alike to edit video clips.
Although simple to use ('How to' documents can be found on the MALT course) WMM is very powerful and allows users to easily cut and edit clips from a variety of sources. It even allows the user to change the orientation of a clip.
Microsoft Operating System XP onwards ...
