Blog

Blog is a virtual diary on the Internet. The student registers his or her own blog on a blog website, all students from the group should use the same website. The blog is used by the students to express his or her opinion and share his or her experience on a certain issue or topic. Blog provides a possibility for other students and the teacher to read the entries, to comment on them and offer some advice.

Practical work in the Internet environment

Area this example can be used:

Computer Sciences

Short and concise description what I did and how I did it:

In order to urge the learners to use the Internet and search for the necessary information, a trainer can offer the theme - TRAVELLING (as everyone enjoys travelling)
Possibilities offered inwww.google.com/maps

Useful in age group:

19 to 25, 26 to 30, 31 to 50, 51 to 66, 66 over

Aim to be achieved:

To teach the learners how to use and adjust the Internet resources for their own objectives and interests.

How did I achieve it:

Gives insight into the possibilities www.google.com/maps offer so as to plan a journey and view the most spectacular places in the world.

I encountered these problems and my following approaches helped to solve these:

Problem When teaching about the Internet people find it difficult to accept the idea that the Internet is World Wide Web, where the necessary information can be found without using any resources. Solution: Getting acquainted with the possibilities www.google.com/maps offers, learners get acquainted with the extensive possibilities provided by the Internet, and they can relate them to a real life situation and necessity.

Why do I consider this approach to be effective and useful:

STUDENT`S BENIFIT • Google/maps kindle imagination, give possibility to travel round the world implicitly, thus giving possibility to do the sightseeing. • Give learners positive emotions and motivates learners to go deeper into a certain theme; • The insight into the extensive offers provided by the Internet is developed; • When learning to use the Internet for obtaining the necessary information, other resources are saved. TEACHERS` BENEFIT • As the lecture turns into an exciting and interesting activity, learners are motivated to be more active. • Gives higher guarantee that all the learners will get involved in the class, because they see the usefulness and possibility to use the acquired knowledge in the future. When starting to learn the Internet in that way, a teacher creates positive attitude, which is especially significant when working with elderly people, as well as the preconceptions, they are having in regard to IT, gradually decrease.

Google Maps parameters
In Google Maps, the URL parameters may be tweaked to offer views and options not normally available through on-screen controls.
For instance, the maximum zoom level offered is normally 18, but if higher-resolution images are available, changing the z parameter, which sets the zoom level, will allow the user to access them, as in this view of elephants or this view of people at a well deep in Chad, Africa using the parameter z=23.
A list of Google Maps parameters and their descriptions is available on Web page.
Which web browsers does Google Maps support?
